Thank-You Notes to Host for Hospitality (AirBNB, Friends, Travel, Funny)

By Billie •  Updated: 04/14/23 •  7 min read

Here are plenty of thank you note message examples to express your appreciation for hospitality shown to you by an AirBNB host, by friends who had you over for dinner, and for kindness shown to you while visiting your friends or a host.

What’s Hospitality Got to Do With It?

What do we consider hospitality? Let’s define hospitality as the welcoming and kind treatment you received from a friend or family member while at their house.

Let’s extend that definition to include hospitality shown by an AirBNB host, as home-sharing grows in popularity.

For example, if you crashed at a friend’s home while visiting them in another country, or an old acquaintance invited you over to watch the 7th game of the World Series and fed you the equivalent of a three-course meal over the span of eight hours, that’s hospitality.

Example Thank You Message to AirBnB Hosts for Their Hospitality

Dear Host,

thanks for extending your hospitality to someone far too cheap to pay for a motel room.

We very much enjoyed our stay last week, thank you again for sharing your beautiful home with us on short notice. This was our first AirBNB booking experience, and what a great introduction this was to a new way of experiencing new places! Your hospitality and generosity were much appreciated, and we cannot thank you enough for your recommendations for where to go and what to eat and what to do — we felt like real locals. We will definitely consider staying at your home again if the timing works out next year!

Best,

The Griswolds

Thank-You Note to a Stranger for Allowing a Traveling Cyclist to Camp Out on Lawn Overnight

Dear Kind Person,

I don’t even know where to begin to express my gratitude for your kindness and generosity last night. As a traveling cyclist, finding a safe place to rest can be a challenge, but you made it so easy for me. Allowing me to set up my tent on your lawn for the night was truly a lifesaver.

Your warm welcome and hospitality were beyond compare, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to rest and recharge on my journey. I also appreciated the conversation and the chance to learn a bit about your community and way of life.

Thank you again for your kindness and for making me feel so welcome. I will never forget your generosity and I hope to one day be able to pay it forward to another traveler in need.

Funny Thank-You Notes for Hospitality

Perhaps you want to spice things up or just get ideas for injecting some humour into your own notes. Let these funny, slightly sarcastic and borderline offensive thank-you notes be your guide.

Cheeky thank-you note for a stay at an AirBnB

Dear [Host],

I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing stay at your AirBnB. Your hospitality was top-notch and your decor was so on-point that I’m pretty sure I’m going to steal some ideas for my own home (don’t worry, I’ll change it up just enough so it’s not obvious).

Seriously, though, your place was like staying in a five-star hotel, except better because you didn’t charge me an arm and a leg for a bottle of water. You’ve officially ruined me for all future AirBnB stays, but I’ll forgive you because you’re just that awesome.

Thanks again for everything! [Your Name]

Funny thank-you note for a weekend at a friend’s cottage

Dear [Friend],

I can’t believe how much fun we had at your lake house this weekend! From the jet skis to the bonfires to the questionable karaoke performances, it was an experience I’ll never forget (whether I want to or not).

But seriously, your hospitality was beyond compare. I’m pretty sure I gained 10 pounds from all the delicious food and drinks you provided, and I’m not even mad about it. And let’s not forget the accommodations – sleeping on an air mattress in the middle of a room full of snoring people was definitely an experience, but at least the views were worth it.

Thanks again for the amazing weekend and for being the best host ever. I’ll never forget it (even if I try to). [Your Name]

Funny, borderline sarcastic thank-you note for a dinner party at a colleague’s home

Dear [Colleague],

I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing dinner party at your home. It was so much fun getting to know everyone outside of the office, and I never knew that accounting could be such a hot topic of conversation.

But let’s talk about the food – holy cow, it was like a gourmet feast! I’m pretty sure I ate my weight in appetizers alone. And let’s not forget the wine – I’m not sure how you managed to find a bottle that perfectly complemented every dish, but you did it.

Thanks again for the incredible evening and for showing us all how it’s done. I’m officially setting the bar high for my own dinner parties (or, you know, just inviting myself over to your place again).

Funny thank-you note to a stranger welcoming a cyclist to camp on lawn overnight

Dear Lawn Host,

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for letting me crash on your lawn last night. It was a real grass act on your part! I promise I didn’t leave any tire marks or damage any of your beautiful landscaping (at least not intentionally).

I couldn’t help but notice that your lawn is so well-maintained that it almost looks like it’s been Photoshopped. I was half-expecting to see a “no camping” sign or a hidden security camera pop up at any moment. But instead, I was greeted with your kindness and hospitality, which was a refreshing change from the usual rough-and-tumble camping experience.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that your generosity didn’t go unnoticed. You truly are a grass-roots hero. Thank you again for letting me pitch my tent on your lawn and for being a shining example of kindness to strangers.

Sincerely, A Grateful Cyclist
